Economy Rental Cars Tasmania is a reputable and experienced rental car company based in the picturesque state of Tasmania, Australia. Economy Rental Cars has compiled a list of frequently asked questions to assist you in planning your Tasmania holiday and rental transport.
What is included in your vehicle rental rates?
All rental rates include insurance, unlimited kilometres, 24 hour on-road assistance, GST tax and free maps.
Are there any age restrictions for drivers and what driver licence do I need?
The hirer and other authorised drivers must be 21 years of age or over and produce a valid full drivers licence. Australia recognises driverÕs licences issued by your own country, as well as International Drivers Licenses.
Do you offer discounts to any recognised groups?
We suggest you Request a Quote for a Ōsharp dealÕ on our rentals. However we do offer discounted rates to people using our Network within Australia and New Zealand. If you are a member of an Automobile Association bring your membership card with you and gain additional privileges and information on travel throughout Tasmania.
Do we have to pay a deposit?
When you receive your confirmation a deposit of AU$300 is required to secure the booking. The balance of monies owing to Economy Rental Cars Tasmania is payable upon collection of the vehicle.
What is your cancellation policy?
Once a booking has been confirmed and a deposit paid the booking is considered live and is subject to the cancellation policy. The AU$300 deposit is forfeited if bookings are cancelled 29 days and over of departure. The following also apply:
- 29 days and over, deposit retained
- 20 - 29 days - 20% (or deposit, whichever is agreed)
- 10 - 19 days - 40% of total reservation cost
- 1 - 9 days - 75% of total reservation cost
- No Show -100% of total reservation cost.
No refunds for cancellations made after the travel or travel date has commenced.

Is it safe to submit my credit card details via your Website?
Yes. We treat the security of your information very seriously. To ensure your security, all credit card transactions are secured by SSL, which encrypts the credit card number so as to make it unavailable to any other party.
Are your hire vehicles automatic transmission or manual?
We have a range of automatic and manual vehicles. If you have a preferred choice please advise at time of booking.
What side of the road do you drive on in Australia?
In Australia we drive on the left side of the road.
How can I amend or cancel my booking?
Should you wish to amend or cancel your existing booking, please contact Economy Rental Cars as soon as possible! Simply go to the Contact Us page, which provides many options for contacting them. Please ensure you quote your confirmation number and one of their reservation consultants will get back to you as quickly as possible.
What credit cards do you accept?
We accept Visa and Mastercard.
What places in Tasmania have a domestic airport?
Tasmania has domestic airports in Hobart, Launceston and Devonport.
How long does it take to fly from Melbourne to Tasmania?
Tasmania is a little over an hourÕs flight from Melbourne.
I donÕt like flying, is there another option for getting to Tasmania from mainland Australia?
You can take a ferry crossing from Port Melbourne to Devonport, Tasmania. The ship is called the Spirit of Tasmania and offers a year round ferry service with daily departures. The ferry has on-board accommodation and the journey takes around 10 hours.
